What’s It Like Now? Updates on Fave DIY’s!
We have done lots of diy projects and I thought a few of my absolute faves deserve updates! As in how are they holding up? How does it look now? And is it really worth doing?
I’m sharing the info, the low down and the skinny for ya so you can decide if these are projects you want to take on! So let’s start with an outdoor diy that I have had some requests on recently.
The Ikea Applaro sectional sofa. I posted all about how we did the sofa facelift project here. Sooo, how is it doing now a year later going into it’s second summer of use?
Last spring freshly painted!
Awesome! The sofa has held up like new. We do put it away in the winter however it’s weathered rain, hail, 4 kids, 4 dogs and even some snow. And this bad boy is still looking pretty darn fantastic. I would absolutely do this project again! I highly recommend it if you have one of these Applaro sofas and it has lost it’s finish (disappointingly fast). Just make sure you thoroughly sand and clean it before you apply a good outdoor paint!
This spring! I know this shot has the cushions on it but you can see some of the mint/blue color!
Here’s the sofa! No chips, peeling or cracking has occurred and I am still thrilled with this project. For more shots of our outdoor patio check out the outdoor tour and blog hop here!
The metallic wall in the master bedroom. This one gets lots of love and questions so it had to make the list! (Here is the original how to post.) How does it hold up? Does the patina last? Do you seal it?
Here it is freshly done a year and a half ago.
And now! My how this room has changed!
As it is today.
So in answer to the questions. Yes the patina stays and looks just as good if not better than we first did it. It has continued to “age” and almost deepen in color. Nope, we definitely didn’t seal it as I wanted it to naturally do it’s thing, whatever that would be. And how does it hold up? Well the only change I’ve seen, other than the deepening in color is where it is regularly touched or leaned against.
Here is the space right behind the euro pillows on the headboard part of the wall. See how where we lean against it it’s darker? Repeated touching of the wall impacts the color of the patina.
Here is a corner of the wall, you can clearly see the bronze paint on the far right. But inward a little bit is the bronze patina that has been touched repeatedly as people walk through here and brush it. Just random spots of darker markings.
I would absolutely do this again. Even with the few spots (that you don’t even notice unless you REALLY look) it’s a beautiful living wall that changes and develops the most beautiful coloring. A+++++ from me! (see link above for full tutorial and list of products used!)
Since we’re in the bedroom how about the wood ceiling! (see the room with the plain ceiling before above)
Well it hasn’t fallen and hit us on the head yet so I call that a win! lol In all seriousness it’s just as beautiful as when it first went up. (pic above) We were very thorough in our installation efforts so I think it did the job. (see the full diy deets here!) It adds a warmth and character to the space that was seriously missing before so another def do again!
Here it is now! Still up and looking amazing
The metallic effects floor……. I was very excited about this floor and spent 2 days working on it. (here’s the full diy post deets)
I’m thrilled to report that it looks exactly the same! And it’s wearing unbelievably well. I sealed this one so the patina has remained exactly as pictured and there are no random wear spots or marks like the metallic wall in our bedroom above (due to the sealing!). Honestly, I am eagerly awaiting the opportunity to do this again on a concrete floor. It’s so gorgeous and gives so much dimension. I just wish it was in a bigger space!
And how about that greenery wall in the office/schoolroom? So many people think it’s either photo-shopped or real greenery. I’m here to tell you it’s neither! And it’s been up for a good 6 months. What do I think of it now?
It looks exactly the same and I LOOOOVE it! It feels amazing, it looks real and it has stayed in place! (other than the rogue leafy piece my youngest has pulled off, which I just pop right back on) I would absolutely do something like this again. Maybe go really crazy next time…..and I’m not sharing my ideas just yet. ; )
Those are some of my favorites and how they have lasted over time. If you have questions on any of my projects hit me up! I’m happy to answer questions and I am definitely open to another post sharing more “after’s”.
How have your diy projects lasted the test of time? Any you would like to share? Any you would not do again? I always love to hear from ya!
And don’t forget to hit up the subscribe button in the sidebar to stay up to date on all things going on over here. You know I’m unpredictable! (wink wink)
