The Great Outdoor Living Event!!
I am beyond excited to share with you all today my updated and polished up all purdy back patio space! And not only that BUT I am linking up with several other talented ladies to their blogs for an awesome blog hop tour so you can make the rounds and get ALL kinds of outdoor inspo! Now that I’ve got you all sorts of excited I won’t delay….here’s our outdoor patio area!
Here’s a full shot of our back patio. We spend a TON of time out here from March to October so making it functional and pretty is definitely on my list every year.
The fab revamped ikea applaro sectional we painted this spring (see how we did it here) and believe it or not the only things I changed were getting a new rio rug mat(from World Market) and creating a centerpiece! It looks SO different though right?!
Close up shot of the new centerpiece. It’s a bowl/wall hanging I picked up on clearance from Target, a tin platform (I already owned), a pink door wreath (I already owned), and a greenery ball I found at Home Goods!
The other side opposite the Ikea Applaro sectional, 2 chillin out chairs and a fuschia side table/stool!
Moving down the patio we have our dining area where I created a slight separation using 3 potted plants
The 3 potted plants I used to create a sense of separation between the sectional seating area and the dining area. (a hydrangea, lemon tree and lime tree)
I picked up a new rio rug mat from World Market (which I love, SO easy to clean!!) and put together a faux flower basket on the step! We love having the table here right next to the grill as it helps with cooking and maneuvering food and dishes. The chairs are SUPER comfy too.
Fun summery tablescape! We painted the top of this table too since it had definitely seen better days, we just used the same paint as we did on the sectional and loungers.
Looking past the dining area I have my old blue rockers and on the right, the twin brother to the german biergarten bench I have in the house. It folds up flat for super easy storage too, extra bonus!
We love to just sit here and rock with coffee in the morning or wine at night. We also play frolfing (frisbee golf) by keeping myself and the hubs seated in the rockers while our partners (the older boys) move the stand wherever they want. They totally take advantage of that gigantic wisteria growing right in front.
The vintage biergarten bench from Germany sits opposite the rockers and in front of the ginormous wisteria vines that have completely overgrown a pretty arched trellis I have hidden under there. It sure is gorge though!
Here we’re looking through the rockers/bench area to the chaise loungers! You can see another World Market Rio rug mat here, I swear by these (at least as of now), you would think they would not be awesome to walk on but they are INCREDIBLY soft and squishy underfoot (and SO cheap last week they were marked down to $20 for a 6×9!)
I created a bit of separation again using another lemon and lime tree and kept the look cohesive by using white pots just like the 3 on the other side!
There’s the fab plant stand I painted to match the loungers in the same post as the Ikea sofa (see link above), I added potted plants instead of actually planting anything as it gets so dry here small plants in a planter are very difficult to keep watered (and alive, at least that’s what I keep telling myself).
Here’a a close up shot of all of the pretty flowers! I also put 2 glam hanging pieces in the top on either side to break up the shape and give it a little more of a presence.
Right next door to the chaises we have the most comfy hanging chair known to man, we actually race (and maybe fight over) this chair and who gets to sit here. It really is that comfortable! A pedestal side table sits next to it for drinks, books, phone, etc. And anchored on either end of the entire patio I have a light blue pot with a big rose bush which you see here on the right.
Another of those World Market Rio rug mats sits underneath the boss (swinging chair) and brings a lovely pop. We also have a big umbrella that lives in the corner and we just roll it into place when we want to use it!
Here’s a shot looking back down the patio from the opposite direction. Swing chair down to sectional!
There you have it folks, the patio space as it looks right now. We actually use every area out here. It totally depends on what is going on and what we’re doing. If the kids are playing on the tramp or using water toys we sit in the chaises/swing chair. If we’re grilling or playing card games we’re at the dining/sectional areas and if we’re by ourselves and just want to chill it’s the rockers. Making it functional and beautiful makes spending time out here all that much more enjoyable. I hope you found some serious inspo/ideas here!
