Hi, I’m Tina and I’m a chronic rearranger. (raising my hand) I get bored, especially when it’s been more than a couple of months. Here’s the skinny. I have been itching to get my hands on this space for awhile now, problem was I was neck deep in the ORC (which is going swimmingly! Here’s last week’s faux greenery wall!). And now that I’ve got that almost in the bag I could not hold myself back and spent a day this weekend giving it a new ‘do. You know how good ya feel when you get your hair done and you just can’t help but double take your bad self in the mirror at every opportunity?! That is exactly how I feel about this space now.
It went from good but feelin ho hum to shake your tail feather all in one day! Here’s what I did…..and best of all I didn’t spend a cent! (here are some posts of prior refresh/updates here, here and here)
Before the refresher updates (most recently) See what I mean? Perfectly nice and good but feelin a lil un-jazzy
And the after! The biggest change from this angle is a rug swap! I left the cowhides down underneath for added interest, you can see by the tv, although the big ole white chair covers up the other side of it. I already had this rug so it was FREE to change it up, I bought it a few years back on clearance from Pottery Barn. I just had it stashed in the unfinished part of the basement, in my own personal “Home Goods”. Everybody has spare drapes, rugs, pillows and accessories stored somewhere right?! No? Well don’t tell my hubs that, he thinks it’s normal.
How about a closer look at some of the swaps I did. Here’s the daybed prior with the mustard floral drapes (a personal fave).
And after! Since the rug has some purple, I decided to go with that for my darker feeling vibes this fall. I had these velvet purple lovelies (drapes for my non Tina-language speaking friends) from Ikea stored in my HG downstairs after changing them out of our bedroom a year ago. I loved the rich color and the luxurious feel they had so I folded em up and stashed em with the rest of my goods. They give such a saturated, warm and fancy feel without being overwhelming.
The blanket on the daybed is actually a quilt from West Elm I used 10 years ago for our bedroom and it’s been living in the closet, but I love it with it’s texture and soft color so I kept it. It was the perfect addition here. I took some cowhide and lavender pillows from our bedroom seating and added them to the daybed too. The deep floral pillows I bought a month ago for a different space and just started using them in here recently.
The before of the other side. You can see those deep florals and the chartreuse green on this sofa, I moved those to the daybed (see above).
Here’s the after! I have a mix of textures and patterns on this sofa too. And pillows that were mostly already in here with the addition/swap of a few from my personal HG store. I also switched out the pink faux fur throw on here with a handmade one from my mom that has all the colors I was using in here (purples, greens and blues). Also note the bench under the tv. I had an embossed teal leather bench here before which I moved to another room and brought out this cowhide bench from our bedroom to replace it. It’s warmer and fits right in with that extra luxe feel I was going for. I also moved my camel saddle here for added visual interest and just cause I love it.
Here’s one more whole room shot from a different angle of the before.
And the after of the same shot. It looks so much cozier and warmer and winter-y. (for a sec I thought I wrote winery, I guess we know what I’m thinkin about! Hey fam, somebody grab me a glass) Purple can be more than just for a girl’s bedroom, it’s all in the layers. I tempered it here with shades of blue and greens and a rug that has lots of other color going on.
There is nothing more satisfying than busting out the creative juices and using what you already own to completely change up your space. Buy only the things you love and when you switch it up. Evaluate if it’s something you really think you might use again because you really just love it. That’s how I determine not only what I want to buy but keep and store.
You may think I’m a smidge of a hoarder, or I must be to make such big changes (for free cause I store it all and I might be a little or a hoarder) but it’s worth it.
Have you switched up your space without spending any $$$? I’d love to hear your tips on making it work without a budget!
