Back to School…..My Dorm/Teen Room Top Picks!
It’s back to school time which is argh for me, it means summer is over and the crazy begins again. Le sigh. To at least lessen the intense suckiness of back to school and all of the cra cra that follows how about we do a quick little roundup of some of the easiest and cutest things you can do in your dorm room/teens room? I know that dorms are never really the most pleasant places to live and if you have an annoying roommate then it’s just the WORST! I had a friend in college that was lucky enough to be a Cultural Care Au Pair and study here in America but because she was an au pair, they didn’t need to stay in a dorm so they were so fortunate to get out of that! But if your teen has no choice but to stay in a dorm then let’s look at ways to make it as good as we can for them.
Let’s start with some bedding!
It’s no secret I have a mad passionate love for the Target Opalhouse Line. And their bedding comes in Twin Extra Long as luck would have it! Sooo of course this made my top faves.
It’s the Target Opalhouse White Indo Peacock Duvet I love this duvet with it’s soft white background and fun pattern. It pairs well with so many accent colors from blush to emerald green and teal to textures like wicker or rattan pieces!
^Tip: The absolute simplest way to have coordinated bedding is to buy a sham or 2 in the same pattern as your duvet! Here’s the Euro Sham for the White Indo Peacock Duvet.
Pair the duvet with the Target Opalhouse Velvet Stitched Quilt in Teal or Emerald for added coziness during those cold winter nights.
^Tip: Go for the opposite size that matches your quilt. Here is the standard sham of the velvet stitched quilt from Target!
Pop in a blush throw pillow from World Market in the mix and at $9.99, which is very budget friendly!
And another solid pillow with a bit of drama from texture and sequins and you have the envy of all dorm room beds!
How about a chair to toss all of your clothes, books, backpack, etc?
Hellooo rattan number from World Market! It’s the Natural Rattan Willis Wingback and currently 30% off with coupon (sign up for World Market Explorere, it’s free and you get the great coupons!)!
Let’s get some color and extra comfort on that epic wingback shall we?
The Pinks and greens/teal tie in beautifully with the bedding above while bringing some more color into the mix! And with the fringe edges it adds a little boho sass to the equation. Pink Multicolor Stitch Fringe Throw Blanket
How about those annoying shoes you just want to kick off when you come in?
These fabulous Natural Rattan Open Weave Iris baskets, in either size, are perfect for keeping those rogue shoes from getting lost but they do it in such an aesthetically pleasing way!
You can never have too much storage and you definitely need that in a dorm room. And the one thing this space is missing so far is some glam!
With 3 drawers in this beautiful bedside table, you have plenty of space for the essentials like your phone charger, chapstick, etc. And the mirrors provide the illusion of a bigger space AND give that edgy glam feel. Win, win win!
And a lamp would be great for those late nights studying or texting your friends amiright?!
This little llama lamp dude is the cutest! Not only is he oh so adorable, but he’s chic as all get out and injects a bit of fun into the space! And he has a relatively small footprint. hahaha anybody?!
Throw all of these pieces together and you will EASILY have the chic-est most get outta town gorgeous dorm room on campus. I’m tellin ya, I would have died for this when I was in college. (Which wasn’t that long ago….OMG I’m old!) I had the ole bed in a bag sitch and it was navy blue and yellow. Not cute.
I didn’t pick out art for this space as I think the owner of said room should pick out or put up whatever they love and when you are in HS or college you have posters, pics of friends, etc and you don’t have room for art. But here’s a super cute mirror cause we all know we wanna check out our cute factor before headin out the door!
The black on this rattan round mirror gives it an extra punch factor while giving dimension and texture to the wall and tying in with the chair and basket!
How about the boys you ask?
Ehh boys are stinky and don’t care what their room looks like. lol at least my teen is that way and from what I remember no dude’s cared about their room, ala bed in a bag biotches!
If you are really interested in a boys room edition I am happy to put one together, just holla at me! But I’m currently brainstorming a room for my teen boy and he’s givin me nothin in the way of direction so harumph. I’ll bring ya up to speed when I figure it all out.
But for now, at least you have a pretty female space to enjoy and put together fairly easily and quickly! This works for both teen girls room and dorm rooms! And all products are either World Market or Target so ordering should be a snap, same with returns if you don’t love something!
What was your dorm room like as a college kid? For reals mine was AWFUL! It had cinder block walls, navy comforter, yellow sheets and a ghetto built in desk and horrendous tile floor cold as all get out. College dorm rooms seem to be so much nicer now from what I have seen, dang kids nowadays have it SO good! I feel like I just dated myself at least a millenia.
