$25 DIY Custom Brass Floor Lamp!
I’m so excited to share this project with you…..a custom lamp for only $25!! Here’s how it all went down. We’re visiting a local flea and in a booth I stumble on this beautiful brass etched stand thingy.
The tag says “giant brass candleholder” except the top is very large and clearly missing a plate for a candle to sit on. So if it was a candle holder it isn’t anymore. So then I take a peek through it and I can see all the way to the floor. Instantly I think “floor lamp!”
I show the hubs who’s a bit skeptical although a team player and he says “sure we can give it a try” Pppshaww I knew it would work. And at $14.99 for the thing I couldn’t not try it!
We pop in at Lowes and picked up a $9.98 3 way lighting kit in brass. With our lighting kit in tow and perusing the basement stash I found an extra lamp shade, (which I’ll share later).
We had already opened the lamp kit but this is what it contained!
We set about the job of putting it together!
My $14.99 giant brass candleholder base thingy and the 3 way lamp kit.
We fed the cord through the base to the top but we needed something for the socket to attach too since the opening was too big.
So we decided we would cut a small circle of plywood from a spare piece in the garage to use as a base for the wiring. Then we just measured the opening to get a snug fit.
We cut it out with a jigsaw. And then drilled a hole through the center for the wiring to go through.
Next up was using the hardware pieces to attach the base of the socket to the wood platform we had made.
Here the base of the socket is attached and the wire is threaded through ready to hook up!
Oh I forgot to snap a pic for you but we had missed attaching the lampshade frame underneath the base of the socket. Below you can see we fixed that!
And then we got all the wiring attached to the top of the socket and popped it into the base piece of the socket.
Here is the finished assembly!
And the final product!
I’m so in love with the way it all came together! And this is the spare lampshade I had sitting in the basement, I think it’s the perfect compliment.
I’m so happy with the way it looks and that I took a chance for $25.
It’s a custom brass etched lamp with a fun fabric lampshade and for only a little bit of money and about 15 minutes of time I have this beautiful floor lamp!
